Biography

Philip Chepurin was born on October 27, 1911 in the village of Pershopokrovka of the Kherson province of the Russian Empire . After graduating from elementary school, he worked first as a shepherd, horse-drawn driver, then as a seller. In 1933, Chepurin was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1937, he graduated from the Kharkov Border School of the NKVD of the USSR . Since January 1942 - on the fronts of World War II [1] .

By April 1945, Captain Philip Chepurin commanded a battalion of the 990th Infantry Regiment ( 230th Infantry Division , 9th Infantry Corps , 5th Strike Army , 1st Belorussian Front ). He distinguished himself during the assault on Berlin . On April 24, 1945, the Chepurin battalion crossed the Spree in the area of Treptower Park and, breaking through the German defenses, advanced to the center of the German capital [1] .

By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated May 31, 1945, Captain Philip Chepurin was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal [1] .

After the war, Chepurin continued to serve in the Soviet Army. In 1951 he graduated from the Shot courses. In 1956, with the rank of lieutenant colonel, Chepurin was sacked. He lived and worked in Bakhchisarai . He died on August 24, 1981 [1] .

He was also awarded two orders of the Red Banner , the order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky 3rd degree, two orders of the Red Star and a number of medals [1] .
