Biography
Arkady Chepelev was born on January 24, 1915 in the village of Tamlyk (now the Novousmansky district of the Voronezh region ). After graduating from four grades of school, he lived and worked in Voronezh . In April 1941, Chepelev was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. From the same year - on the fronts of World War II [1] .
By September 1943, Senior Sergeant Arkady Chepelev commanded the 180th Separate Engineer Battalion of the 167th Rifle Division of the 38th Army of the 1st Ukrainian Front . He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper . On September 26, 1943, Chepelev was engaged in ferrying Soviet units with their weapons and ammunition across the Dnieper in the vicinity of the village of Vyshhorod, Kiev region, Ukrainian SSR . November 3, 1943 he personally participated in repelling German counterattacks on the bridgehead [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of January 10, 1944, Senior Sergeant Arkady Chepelev was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal [1] .
After the war ended, the rank of foreman Chepelev was demobilized. He lived and worked in Voronezh. He died on July 31, 1985 [1] , was buried in the South-West cemetery of Voronezh.
He was also awarded the orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st and 2nd degrees, the Order of the Red Star and a number of medals [1] .
