In the 1870s, on the site of this house stood a mansion with a mezzanine owned by F. S. Kurilchenkova. In 1903, a small house was added to the building, which housed a photographic studio, and later - an art studio.
In the 1930s, it was decided to build a new administrative building on this site. Construction began in 1935. Scaffolding was removed from the facade in the autumn of 1936. Obviously, the interior decoration was completely completed in 1938, when the main bookstore of the city was opened on the ground floor.
The architect A.V. Mironov vertically divided the six-story facade into three parts. The middle part is set on the foundations of the arcade of the second floor. On the facade of the sixth floor there are narrow semicircular windows, and above - a large cornice with modulons.
The book house was restored after the war also under the leadership of A.V. Mironov. Internal redevelopment was carried out by architect V.P. Glotov. From the 1960s to 1982, the editors of the Young Communard were housed in the building. Now in the Book House are located the regional branch of the United Russia party and the public reception of the party’s chairman, D. A. Medvedev .
