Biography
His full name is Abu 'Ali al-Fudail ibn' Iyyad ibn Mas'ud ibn Bishr al-Tamimi al-Yarbu'i al-Khurasani ( Arabic: الفضيل بن عياض بن مسعود بن بشر التميمي الالربو
Al-Fudail was a native of Abivard , was born in Samarkand in 107 year of hijra ( 725 year ). There is a report of dubious reliability [1] that in his youth he robbed and attacked caravans between Serakhs and Abivard, and once, when he wanted to rob, he heard the following verses from the Koran : Is it not time that the hearts of believers humble themselves at the mention of Allah and that which has been revealed from the truth, and that they are not likened to those whom the Scripture was bestowed before, whose hearts turned black after a long time and many of which are ungodly? al-Hadid 57:16 ( Kuliyev ) and this made him repent and abandon his criminal activity [2] .
After that, al-Fudail moved to Kufu ( Iraq ) and studied with Suleiman al-Amash , Bayan ibn Bishr, Ibn Abu Leila, Jafar al-Sadik and many others. Hadith were transmitted from him: Abdullah ibn al-Mubarak , Yahya al-Kattan , Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi, Sufyan ibn Uyayna , al-Asmai , Abd ar-Razzak as-Sanani , Muhammad al-Shafi , Abu Bakr al-Khumaydi and others [2]
Al-Fudail was known for his God-fearing and ascetic way of life. In the book of Abu Nu'aym “ Hiliyat al-Awliya” a legend is given from al-Fadl ibn ar-Rabi ', which tells about the visit of the famous Abbasid caliph Harun al-Rashid to al-Fudail. He, unlike other ulama visited by Harun al-Rashid, refused all the gifts of the caliph, although he needed funds to pay off his debts, explaining that his most important duty was to Allah [3] .
Al-Fudail Ibn Iyyad died in Mecca in 187 Hijra ( 803 year ) [2] .
