Physical Properties
Triniobium octabromide forms black crystals of several modifications:
- α-Nb 3 Br 8
- β-Nb 3 Br 8 , trigonal syngony , space group R 3 m , cell parameters a = 0.70787 nm, c = 3.8957 nm, Z = 6 [1] .
α-Nb 3 Br 8 has a large region of homogeneity.
In the Nb 3 Br 8 molecule, niobium atoms form triangles; the Nb-Nb bond length is 0.288 nm.
It is not soluble in water, acids and alkalis.
