Biography
Kittler was the tailor's son.
From 1871 to 1874 he taught at an elementary school in Nuremberg.
From 1875 to 1876 he studied mathematics and physics at the Higher Technical School of Munich, then - at the University of Würzburg, where in 1879 he passed exams in mathematics and physics.
Since 1879, he worked at the Institute of Physics at the Technical University of Munich with Professor Wilhelm Betz. In 1880 he received his doctorate under the supervision of Professor Friedrich Kohlrausch at the University of Würzburg, and continued his studies at the Technical University of Munich (1881).
In 1882, the world's first department of electrical engineering was created at the Technical University of Darmstadt , and he headed the department of Kittler. In 1883, Kittler developed the first electrotechnical course for universities, the study plan envisaged a four-year term with a final exam. The first four semesters included, in addition to general electrical engineering, the study of the fundamental foundations of engineering: mathematics, physics, chemistry and mechanical engineering. In the fifth and eighth semester, special disciplines in the field of electrical engineering were studied in depth: measurements, electric drives, electric power transmission, electric machines, electric lighting, and later - high voltage technology.
Among the students of Kittler, famous Russian and Soviet electrical engineers M.O. Dolivo-Dobrovolsky and K.A. Krug .
Since 1915, retired.
In 1899, he was appointed Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig for life as a member of the First Chamber of the estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse , where he remained until November 1918.
