Biography
Jason Anthony Rocco Spezza was born in an Italian family on June 14, 1983 in Mississauga, Ontario. Son of Reno and Donna Spezza. He has a sister Michelle and brother Matthew, currently serving as the goalkeeper of the International Hockey League. Growing up in the Toronto area, Jason watched the life of the NHL club Toronto Maple Leafs , but his favorite hockey player during his childhood years was Mario Lemieux. Not reaching the year, Spezza won the competition for kids and turned into a real model. At the age of five, he was selected as a member of a commercial for the food of the 'Minute Maid' beverage line. And two years later, Jason became the face of the retail network Woolco and Kmart . At fifteen, sports changed her modeling career, and Spezza joined the Ontario hockey league in the Brampton Battalion team ( Brampton Battalion ) in the 1998-1999 season. After that, Jason scored 61 points in 52 games, playing for Mississauga Ice Dogs , and spent 15 games in the Windsor Spitfires team.
NHL
Ottawa Senators
Once in 2001, in the NHL Draft, Spezza was drafted to the Ottawa Senators club under the common number two following Ilya Kovalchuk , who went to the Atlanta Thrashers . Debut in the NHL was for the Canadian hockey player in the 2002-2003 season, for which he spent 33 games and scored 21 points. But only the next season in the National Hockey League was complete for him when Spezza scored 22 goals and scored 55 points in 78 games. Because of the NHL lockout in the 2004–2005 season, Jason returned to the AHL and won the John B. Sollenberger Trophy as the “league top scorer” and won the Les Cunningham Award .
Returning to the Ottawa Senators club in 2005–2006, Jason became the first-line forward between Dany Heatley and rookie Brandon Bochenski . After captain Daniel Alfredsson replaced Bochenski, the newly formed trio was named CASH and Pizza, becoming one of the most productive lines of attack in the NHL. In the playoffs of the Stanley Cup in 2006, the Senators team won the Tampa Bay Lightning club in the first round, but then lost to Buffalo Sabers . Spezza scored 14 points in 10 playoff games.
After a successful operation in 2006, Jason continued in the same vein with Heatley and Alfredsson, until he received another injury. In 67 games, he scored 34 goals and finished the season with 87 points. Having scored a goal against Buffalo Sabbers on May 19, 2007, Spezza helped Ottawa reach the Stanley Cup final, where the senators lost to Anaheim Dax . Then the hockey player extended the contract with the club for seven years in the amount of $ 49 million [1] , in the 2008–2009 season, having shown not his best result since his first full season in the NHL.
Dallas Stars
On July 1, 2014, Ottawa traded Spezza and Ludwig Karlsson to Dallas Stars for Alex Chaisson , Alex Gaptill , Nicholas Paul and the choice in the second round of the draft pick 2015 [2] [3] . In the summer of 2015, despite the fact that the “stars” were not in the playoffs last season, Dallas extended a contract with Jason for 4 years in the amount of $ 30 million [4] .
Personal life
Jason married Jennifer Snell on July 25, 2009.
