Biography
Born June 11, 1957 in the city of Gary in Indiana, USA; was the second of six children of Skevofilaks Zembillas and Stamatia, nee Georgiadis, Greeks of Kalimnian and Cypriot origin.
In 1975, he received secondary education at the St. Andrew's School (Andrean High School) in his hometown. In 1979, he graduated from Colby College in Waterville in Waterville , Maine, with a bachelor's degree in philosophy and English literature. He worked in a coffee company.
From 1981 to 1982 he spent in the monasteries of the Holy Mount Athos and Patmos .
In 1982, he entered the Theological School of the Holy Cross in Brooklyn, from which he graduated in 1985 with a master's degree in theology.
From 1985 to 1987, he served at the Trinity Nicholas Church in Cincinnati , Ohio.
From 1987 to 1994, he studied at the University of Oxford the early monasticism of the Eastern Roman Empire under the leadership of Bishop Dioclesian Callistus (Weir) .
On November 21, 1992, at the Constantine-Eleninsky Cathedral in Merryville, Indiana, Bishop of Chicago Jacob (Garmatis) was ordained a deacon . He was a deacon under the Bishop of Diocles Calliste in England.
On January 8, 1995, at the Constantine-Eleninsky Cathedral in Merryville, Indiana, Bishop of Chicago Jacob (Garmatis) was ordained a presbyter . Since September 1995, he served as rector of the Greek Church of the Annunciation in Kalamazoo , Michigan.
On November 12, 1996, he was elevated to the rank of Archimandrite by Bishop Max of Pittsburgh (Iorgusis) .
In September 1997, he was transferred to serve at the Church of St. Demetrius in on Long Island .
Since December 1999, for a decade, served as the protosingel of the Greek American Archdiocese.
On December 11, 2001, he was elected Bishop of Troas, Vicar of the American Archbishopric , with the retirement of Protosingella.
On February 2, 2002, at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Manhattan, he was ordained bishop of Troads, vicar of the American Archbishopric . The consecration was performed by the Archbishop of America, Demetrius (Trakatellis) , the Archbishop at rest, Jacob (Kukuzis) , Metropolitan Ainoski Maxim (Iorgusis) , Bishop of Atlanta Alexy (Panayotopulos) and Bishop of Dioclius Callistus (Ware) [1] .
On March 2, 2009, he was relieved of his post as protosingella and was appointed director of the Department of the American Archbishopric for Relations with Society and Culture [2] .
November 3, 2011 was elected Metropolitan of Pittsburgh .
December 8, 2011 in St. Nicholas Cathedral in Pittsburgh, his intronization took place, led by Archbishop of America Dimitry (Trakatellis) [3] .
