[6] Sean Legg-Bourke was appointed maid of honor to Princess Anne in 1987 [7] , the in 1991 [8] and is now [9] .

Tiggy's paternal grandfather, (1914-1973), was a member of from 1945 to 1973 and chairman Conservative Party of Great Britain [10] . His death in 1973 led to the won by liberal Clement Freud [11] [12] .

The family estate in Glanusk was bought (and the first large house was built here) (1783-1858), whose fortune was "cast" by metallurgists in [13] .

In addition to Tiggy, the family has a son, Harry, and a daughter, Zara. Tiggy and Zara, who is one year younger than her sister, were [15] In 1985, Zara got married, but the marriage ended in divorce in 1997 . In 1993, shortly after the separation of the Prince of Wales with his wife [17] , Charles hired Tiggy as a nanny for his sons [2] . At the same time, Tiggy became an assistant to the Prince’s personal secretary, [18] As the royal nanny, Tiggy began to write notes. The first reproaches began when Tiggy contemptuously spoke about the attitude of the Princess of Wales to her sons: “I give them everything they need at this stage; fresh air, shooting and horses. She gives them tennis racquets and a bucket of popcorn at the cinema ” [2] . Tiggy made another mistake when she mentioned the princes, calling them “my children” [2] .

Tiggy was often with the princes on holidays [19] . An inveterate smoker, she said that she had the ability to smoke even when skiing [20] , and was criticized by Princess Diana for smoking near her sons [2] . In 1996 , at the age of 13, Prince William , avoiding a difficult choice, persuaded his parents not to come to Eaton for the June 4 celebrations. However, instead of them, William invited Tiggy, which confused his parents [21] .

Tiggy helped the princes survive the death of her mother in a car accident in Paris on August 31, 1997. [22] Tiggy provoked outrage in 1998 , when she allowed the princes to descend from a fifty-meter dam without safety equipment. A report was sent to St. James's Palace about this incident, and Tiggy, as reported, was saved only by the adoration of the princes [2] .

Statements have repeatedly appeared in the press that Tiggy was fired, but they all turned out to be false [2] . In early 1997, she resigned, but returned to the palace a few months later [2] . On July 18, 1997, leaving the service of Prince Charles, she attended Camilla Parker-Bowles 's fiftieth birthday in Gloucestershire. [23]

In 1999, Tiggy and her friends took the princes to a 10-day safari in Botswana , where they also visited National Park and the Okavango Delta [24] .

Tiggy finally left the service in October 1999 , when she married Charles Pettifer [2] .

Princess of Wales

Charles, Prince of Wales

On December 9, 1992, John Major told the House of Commons that the Prince and Princess of Wales had broken up, but were not planning to divorce. At this time, Diana was convinced that Charles only loved Camilla Parker-Bowles [25] .

Already at the beginning of October 1993, Diana wrote to that she believed that Charles was in love with Tiggy Legg-Bourke and was going to marry her [26] .

On December 3, 1993, Diana announced that she had decided to abandon public life. [17]

In early 1995, the Prince of Wales reportedly kissed Legg Bourke on a ski slope in Klosters [18] . In June of that year, a photojournalist photographed Charles kissing Tiggy on the cheek during a sports day at Prince Harry’s . Asked for comment, reported that this is a natural reflection of the woman’s affection that the prince has known since childhood. [18] Tiggy later admitted that she had a “school crush” with Charles, who was a frequent guest on her family’s estate [27] . When the rumors of the affair strengthened, Tiggy stated that “this is just the price she has to pay for work for the Prince of Wales” [18] . Diana’s biographer, , noted that “Charles is interested in her only as an uncle is interested in a younger niece” [27] .

On November 20, 1995, a sensational interview with the Princess of Wales was broadcast on the BBC [17] . The fight between Charles and Diana became more public than ever, and Diana’s famous saying “there were three of us in this marriage” undoubtedly concerned Parker Bowles. Tiggy was not mentioned at all [25] . However, on January 24, 1996, the newspapers, citing Diana as the source, spread an inaccurate rumor from November and December 1995 that Tiggy had become pregnant by Charles and had an abortion [27] . It was reported that Diana and Tiggy exchanged a few words on this issue at a party on December 14, 1995, when Diana said that she was “so sorry for the child” [28] , and, according to quotes from an “informed source”, “The Queen was absolutely furious and completely sympathized with Tiggy " [27] . On December 18, 1995, with the Queen’s consent, Tiggy instructed attorney to write Diana’s attorneys asking for an apology, asking for “recognition of the charges completely untrue” [27] . No apology was received, but Tiggy's lawyers circulated the letter to the media, warning against publication [18] .

Diana, Princess of Wales

December 20, 1995 it became known that the queen asked Charles and Diana to consider the "early divorce" [27] .

On January 22, 1996 , shortly before the publication of the allegations of unjustified abortion, Diana's personal secretary Patrick Jepson resigned, and his assistant Nicole Cockell did the same the next day [27] . Jepson later wrote that Diana “rejoiced, accusing Tiggy of having an abortion” [29] .

The zeal for her sons of the woman who cared for them made Diana's attitude towards Tiggy even more hostile; she demanded that Tiggy leave the room while Diana talked with her sons on the phone [27] . In February 1996, newspapers published Diana’s letter to Charles, in which she asked “Miss Legg-Bourke not to spend extra time in children's rooms ... reading them for the night or controlling their bathing” [27] .

The divorce of Diana and Charles took place on August 28, 1996. A year later, on August 31, 1997 , Diana and Dodi al-Fayed died in a car accident in Paris [17] . , who led the to investigate their deaths, reported his findings on December 14, 2006 . According to the report, Diana was afraid that she and Camilla Parker Bowles were the victims of a conspiracy whose purpose was to secure the marriage of the Prince of Wales to a third woman [30] . The Daily Mail immediately called this woman Tiggy Legg-Bourke [13] [31] [32] . When Tiggy called from the Daily Mail on December 15, 2006, she replied, “I'm not going to talk to you. Merry Christmas! ” [31] .

While reporters were digesting Lord Stevens' report, they took a fresh look at the conspiracy theory mentioned in the report and tried to build another version of the alleged love of Charles and Tiggy. [33]

The story came up again when a British investigation into the deaths of Diana and Dodi al-Fayed was examined at the Royal Court in London on October 2, 2007, led by Lord Justice Coroner . On October 6, 2007, the judge reported, as stated in court, that the testimony of , Diana’s lawyer , said that Diana told him “Camilla was not Charles’s real lover, but a bait for his real favorite, the nanny Tiggy Legg-Bourke " [34] .

In December 2007, witnesses in the investigation were questioned about a letter to Paul Barrell from the Princess of Wales in October 1993, which had previously been published only in an edited form. In this letter, Diana wrote:

This stage in my life is the most dangerous - my husband is planning an “accident” with my car, brake failure and a serious head injury to make the path clean for marriage with Tiggy. Camille is nothing more than bait, so we are always used by man in the full sense of the word.

Camilla Parker-Bowles, now Duchess of Cornwall

On January 7, 2008, Diana’s friend, Rodney Turner, testifying to the investigation, described his shock when he saw the contents of Diana’s letter to Barrell [26] . On January 15, 2008, Maggie Ri, a lawyer at the firm headed by Lord Mishkon (who died in January 2006), testified during the investigation about Diana's fears, which had the same effect as the letter based on Mishkon’s notes in his documents and the meeting of Ri and her colleague with him in October 1995 [36] .

In what was called the “Mishkon Notes” from 1995, Diana predicted that in 1996 the queen would abdicate, the Prince of Wales would abandon Parker Bowles in favor of Legg-Bourke, and that she herself would die in a planned traffic accident [ 37] . Before his death, Mishkon sent a copy of the notes to the metropolitan police, which did not take any action in this regard [37] .

On October 7, 2007, journalist Jasper Gerard mocked a “conspiracy theory” that constantly accompanies the death of Diana, Princess of Wales:

People will be rapping their nose thoughtfully for a whole century, reading new revelations: these were Tiggy Legg-Burke and Queen Elizabeth, Queen Mother , who were hiding in a tunnel with a flashlight and a bottle of Gordon's .

Marriage and children

Tiggy claimed that paparazzi’s attention prevented her from finding a partner [2] , but in October 1999 she married Charles Pettifer, a former officer of the , who had two sons from a previous marriage [39] , telling the press: “He's magical " [2] . She deliberately did not invite Camilla Parker-Bowles to her wedding, apparently because of the hostility between them and Camilla’s remarks about Tiggy when she called her “hired assistant” [2] . Princes William and Harry participated in the celebration [19] , but Prince Charles, referring to previously planned affairs, refused [2] .

Feelings between Tiggy and Charles Pettifer broke out back in school years in the late 80s, but the romance was short-lived.
