Biography

Georgiev Ivan Vasilyevich was born on November 7, 1902 in the village of Shchelguny, St. Petersburg Province, in the family of a worker [1] Russian . In the Red Army from June 1924. Member of the CPSU (b) since 1927.

Before the war

In the Red Army, Igor V. Georgiev began his service in June 1924 as junior commander of the 167th infantry regiment of the 56th Moscow Infantry Division. In October 1925, he was sent to study at the Leningrad Military Theoretical School of the Red Army Air Force, after which it was sent to the 2nd Military Pilot School . After graduating from school in June 1928 he was sent to the 43rd Aviation Squadron of the 2nd Aviation Brigade, as a junior pilot. He held the posts of senior pilot, then flight commander. In June 1933 he was appointed commander of the squadron of the 5th squadron of the 201st aviation brigade [2] .

In December 1935 he entered the Higher tactical flight school of the Red Army Air Force (Lipetsk). After graduating from school in December 1936, he was assigned to the 49th aviation brigade as commander and commissioner of the squadron. In February 1938, he was appointed to the post of brigade commander, and in June, to the post of commander of the 59th Bomber Aviation Regiment . The regiment participated in the campaign of the Red Army in Western Belarus in 1939 , then in the Soviet-Finnish war of 1939-1940. . In March 1940 he was transferred to the post of commander of the 312nd reconnaissance aviation regiment as part of the Pribovo Air Force [2] .

Participation in the Great Patriotic War

The Great Patriotic War, Major Georgiev met as commander of the 312nd reconnaissance aviation regiment as part of the North-Western Front . The regiment took part in defensive operations in the Baltic States [2] . In September 1941, the regiment was reorganized into the 312th Assault Aviation Regiment , which participated in the defense of Moscow as part of the air forces of the Western Front , having made over 200 combat sorties [2] . The regiment was armed with aircraft R-5 and SB , and after the re-formation received IL-2 .

In December 1941 he was appointed commander [3] of the 23rd heavy bomber aviation division (in March 1942 it was renamed the 53rd aviation division and incorporated into the DA ). The division carried out night bombardments in cooperation with front-line aviation in the deep rear of the enemy, providing Soviet units located in the south of Vyazma surrounded by air, and units that were fighting against the six divisions of the 16th German Army surrounded on the North-Western Front in Demyansk village ( Novgorod region ). Since September 1942, the division participated in night bomber operations during the Battle of Stalingrad [2] .

In April 1943, I. V. Georgiev was appointed commander [2] of the 5th Long-Range Air Corps . The corps was used to attack tank groupings and enemy manpower in areas of concentration and on the battlefield, at railway junctions and echelons, ferries and bridges in the combat zones of the South-Western and North-Western fronts and participated in operations:

  • The Battle of Kursk [2] - from July 5, 1943 to August 23, 1943
  • Orel operation "Kutuzov" [2] - from July 12, 1943 to August 18, 1943
  • Kuban air battle [2] - from May 25, 1943 to July 1943
  • Belgorod-Kharkiv Operation Rumyantsev [2] - from August 3, 1943 to August 23, 1943
  • Krasnoselsko-Ropshinskaya operation [2] - from January 14, 1944 to January 30, 1944
  • The Leningrad-Novgorod operation [2] - from January 14, 1944 to March 1, 1944.
  • Air operation against Finland [2] - from February 6, 1944 to February 27, 1944
  • Bobruisk Operation [2] - from June 24, 1944 to June 29, 1944
  • Bialystok offensive operation [2] from July 5, 1944 to July 27, 1944
  • Airborne operation in the rear of the enemy on the territory of Czechoslovakia - in 1944

The corps participated in the liberation [4] of the cities of Oryol , Lyubotin and Mirgorod , Krasnoye Selo , Krasnogvardeysk , the settlement of Ropsha. Bobruisk , Sokolka, Bialystok .

For participation in the liberation of Oryol, the 5th Long-Range Aviation Corps was awarded the honorary title “Orlovsky” [5] . In 1944, part of the corps [2] carried out 10,028 sorties, dropped 5,812 tons of bombs, landed 12,230 people, took out 2,234 wounded. In January 1945, the corps was withdrawn to the reserve of the Supreme Command Headquarters and disbanded in February, and I. V. Georgiev was appointed commander of the 9th Guards Bomber Aviation Corps of the Airborne Forces of the Supreme Command.

After the war

After the war, I. V. Georgiev in his previous position [2] .
