Maria Bayo ( Maria Josefina Bayo-Jimenez , Spanish María Josefina Bayo Jiménez ; May 28, 1961 [1] [2] , Fitero , Navarre , Spain ) - Spanish opera singer, coloratura soprano . Winner of the 2002 Prince de Viana Prize (Premios Internacionales de Navarra Príncipe de Viana), established by the Government of Navarre.

Biography
Maria Bayo received her elementary musical education at the ( Pamplona ) , where she studied guitar, and Maria sang in the choir of Cintruenigo . Subsequently, due to the lack of career prospects for herself as a performer of guitar music, she decided to study vocals . Maria's singing taught Edurne Agerri. Bayo performed as a soloist with , the chapel of the Pamplona Cathedral , and sang at charity concerts by UNICEF .
In 1985, as a Fellow of the Government of Navarre, Maria moved to Germany to continue her studies at the Detmold High School of Music with Arthur Hansen. A year later, Maria became a scholar of the International Vocal Competition of , held for the first time [3] . In the same year, 1986, Bayo received the Madronita Andreu scholarship at the Francisco Viñas Competition (Concurso Internacional de Canto Francisco Viñas) [4] . International fame came to Bayo in 1988, when she won the first prize at the Vienna Chamber Opera competition (Internationaler Hans-Gabor-Belvedere-Gesangswettbewerb) [5] .
In 2009, together with Josep Sole and Joan Manuel Serrat was nominated for the National Music Prize of Spain [6] .
On April 15, 2011, Maria Bayo was awarded the title of a member of - the Academy of Science, Literature and Art, founded by the Basque Scientific Society [7] .
Winner of the Humanidades de Eusko Ikaskuntza-Caja Laboral (2011) Prize and the Tommaso Traetta Society Prize (2014) for services to the discovery of the roots of European musical heritage.
Maria Bayo has one daughter, Elijah (2004), named after the heroine of Mozart’s opera “ Idomeneus ”.
Repertoire
The extensive and varied operatic repertoire of Maria Bayo covers the music of four centuries: from works by Handel and Cavalli to Puccini , Debussy , Poulenc and Stravinsky .
Bayo made her debut on the opera stage in Pisa , St. Gallen and Lucerne : in Pearl Seekers by Bizet (Leila), Lucia de Lammermoor by Donizetti and Somnamboul by Bellini (Lisa). Then came the roles of Handel (Cleopatra), Payatsa Leonkavallo (Nedd), Verdi 's Bale-Masquerade (Oscar) in Julia Caesar .
With an extensive repertoire, the singer nevertheless has preferences, first of all, this work by Rossini , - Bayo sang parts in six operas of the Italian composer: “Bianca and Fallero”, “The Barber of Seville ”, “ Journey to Reims ”, “ Incident makes a thief , Silk Ladder and Tancred . As well as works by Mozart - four seasons in a row, Bayo (the first of the Spanish singers) was invited to the Salzburg Festival to perform parties in the “ Da Ponte trilogy” (or “Mozart's Italian trilogy”): “ Don Juan ”, “ That's what everyone does ”, “ Wedding Figaro ” [8] . The roles played by Maria in these operas brought her fame to the Mozart singer. The evolution of Bayo's voice led her to the consistent performance of several roles in each of these operas. She sang “Fiordiligi” ( , 1991), and later - Despina (Salzburg, 2000). In Don Juan, Maria initially turned to the role of Zerlina (Salzburg, 1999), after some time embodied the image of Donna Anna (Ruhr-Triennale, 2002). In The Marriage of Figaro, Bayo performed three batches in succession: Suzanna, soprano ( Madrid , 1990); Cherubino, as a rule, is sung by mezzo-soprano , (Salzburg, 1998); and, finally, in 2007 for the first time - the role of the Countess ( Dresden ). In “ Bohemia, ” Maria made her debut as Musetta (Milan), and later performed the part of Mimi. In addition, Bayo performed the main parts in such baroque operas as Callisto by Francesco Cavalli (1995, La Monnais , conductor Rene Jacobs ) and Cleophida Hasse .
An important part of Bayo's performing career was work in the field of zarzuela , and not only works of the 19th and 20th centuries, but also baroque zarsuela of the 17th century.
