Biography

Mitrofan Vel'yaminov-Zernov was born on March 16, 1839. Orthodox religion. He graduated from the Mikhailovsky Artillery School [1] .

Entered the service on January 6, 1857. He served in the Life Guard Grodno Hussars [2] . From June 6, 1856 - Cornet Guard. On April 21, 1861, the rank of lieutenant was conferred, and on April 30 of the following year - headquarters captain. From 1863 to 1864 he participated in the hostilities in the Caucasus . April 16, 1867 awarded the rank of captain. For 4 years and 11 months, commanded a squadron . March 28, 1871 received the rank of colonel. From November 27, 1874 was for special assignments at the military ataman Ataman of the Don Cossacks . On October 12, 1876, he assumed the post of commander of the 18th Dragoon Pereyaslav Regiment . He participated in the Russian-Turkish war of 1877―78 in the Caucasian theater of military operations as part of the Erivan squad [3] . From July 25, 1879 - general for special assignments at the military ataman Ataman of the Don Cossacks. On the basis of the Manifesto of February 18, 1762, he was promoted to major general ( VP of August 25, 1879, with seniority serving as August 30, 1882) [4] . On July 12, 1882, he was appointed commander of the 1st brigade of the 14th cavalry division . From December 3, 1894, the commander of the 3rd , and from November 28, 1901, the 2nd Brigade of the Cavalry Reserve . May 14, 1896 promoted to lieutenant general [1] .

Velyaminov-Zernov died in Kielce , the Kingdom of the Polish Russian Empire on October 15, 1903. He was buried there at the cemetery at the Kielsk Orthodox Cathedral [5] .
