Babalawo ( Yoruba bàbáláwo father of secrets) - the Nigerian Yoruba people have the common name of worshipers, shamans and traditional healers [1] .
This term covers people who are completely different in terms of activity, from oracles-divinators of Ifa and clergy to specialists in medicinal plants who are not tied to a certain cult in their activities. A negative attitude towards spell sorcerers appeared only in the 1980s in connection with the second wave of Christianization in Africa. For the Igbo people, the corresponding term is called dibia.
The term "babalavo" is also called the priests of the Orisha deity (the deity of the Candomblé cult) in Brazil , as well as the Yoruba priests in Cuba [2] .
