About the album
461 Ocean Boulevard is Clapton's second studio album in his solo career, which began after the completion of the Derek and the Dominos project. This album came out almost four years after his debut solo CD, mainly due to problems caused by Clapton's heroin addiction [2] [3] . The album was recorded in April-May 1974 at the studio Criteria Studios in Miami ( Florida , USA). While working on it, Clapton lived in the nearby town of Golden Beach in the house at 461 Ocean Boulevard , which he used as the name of the album (the cover photo shows this house) [3] .
This album includes the song “ I Shot the Sheriff ”, one of Clapton’s most famous songs, which is a blues cover version of the song of the same name by Jamaican musician Bob Marley . Shortly before the release of 461 Ocean Boulevard, this Clapton song was released as a single, which took first place in the Billboard Hot 100 .
In 2004, an anniversary remastered re-release on two discs ("deluxe edition") was released. The first disc includes all the compositions of the original 1974 edition and several additional songs recorded in the studio. The second disc contains recordings made on December 4 and 5, 1974 at a concert in London. In 2013, Polydor Records released a five-CD box set under the umbrella name Give Me Strength. The '74 / '75 Recordings , containing reprinted, remastered, and previously unreleased Clapton records. The first disc contains an extended version of the album 461 Ocean Boulevard [4] .
