Description

Body length about 2 cm, front wing length about 15 mm [1] . The species Archaeoscolia senilis was first described by the imprint of the body and the front wing in 1993 by the Russian paleoentomologist and hymenopterologist Alexander Pavlovich Rasnitsyn ( Paleontological Institute RAS , Russia ) together with Floriscolia relicta . Included in the genus Archaeoscolia Rasnitsyn, 1993 , one of the oldest representatives of the Scoliidae family. A new species was isolated in a separate subfamily Archaescoliinae from the family Scoliidae . Among the oldest oskoli: Cretoscolia conquensis (130 Ma, Spain ), Protoscolia sinensis (130 Ma, China ), Cretoscolia monsecan (130 Ma, Spain) [1] [2] . Together with the Cretaceous species Architiphia rasnitsyni , Priorvespa longiceps (130 Ma, Transbaikalia , Russia ), Curiosivespa antiqua (120 Ma, Buryatia , Russia), Cretaproscolia asiatica (120 Ma, China) and others are the oldest representatives of the superfamily of Vespoid wasps ( Vespoidea ) from the hymenoptera squad. Sister taxa: Cretoscolia , Floriscolia , Protoscolia , Archaeoscolia hispanica and others. The species name comes from the Latin word senilis (old) [1] .
