Biography
It is known that Lasinius was a native of Sweden and had extensive experience in navigation. He entered the Russian service in 1725 , in the rank of lieutenant . There is evidence of his participation in the First Kamchatka Expedition led by V. I. Bering , but his functions in this campaign are unknown [1] .
In 1733 he was promoted to lieutenant of major rank and enlisted in the Great Northern Expedition as the head of the Lensko-Kamchatka detachment. In July 1735 , on a two-masted decker boat Irkutsk, he descended from Yakutsk down the Lena with a crew of 44 people and left on August 7 in the Laptev Sea . Next, he was supposed to explore the coast east of the mouth of the Lena. But on August 14, his boat was stopped by ice and entered the mouth of the Kharaulakh River, in Buor-Khaya Bay, where on August 18 the detachment stopped for the winter. In an effort to save food, the lieutenant halved the diet. This led to an outbreak of tsynga and on December 19, 1735 , during this wintering, Lasinius died first [2] . By the spring of next year, another 35 people died and only 9 were saved in June 1736 by M. Ya. Shcherbinin and delivered to Yakutsk. The new commander of the bot was appointed D. Ya. Laptev .
Memory
The name of this navigator was immortalized in the names of the cape and peninsula in the Laptev Sea [2] .
