Mechigmen [1] is a sand and pebble spit that separates the Mechigmen Bay from the Bering Sea . It is located on the territory of the Providensky district of the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug of Russia .

The name translated from Chukot. Machivman - " Unreachable ." So the locals in this area call pebble spit, which slightly do not reach the other shore, forming the neck [2] .
The spit is stretched in a northwestern direction for 13 km, the extreme point is Cape Halvatkyn (in Chukot, βthe place of death from induced damageβ [3] ), the height of land above sea level here is less than 1 meter. At the base of the spit are the lakes Galgagytgyn , Kavalgytgyn , Tagryngytgyn , at which migration stops and nests of waterfowl and waders are noted [4] .
On the southern coast of the spit is a large ancient Eskimo settlement of Masik sea ββhunters, abandoned at the beginning of the XX century [5] .
