Description

Established in 1969 to honor Dadasaheb Falke’s contribution to the creation of Indian cinema [2] . Falke (1870–1944), often regarded as the “ father of Indian cinema, ” was an Indian filmmaker who shot the first full-length feature film Raja Harishchandra (1913) [1] . The first winner of the award in 1970 was Devika Rani . As of 2016, 47 prizes were awarded. Among them is the only posthumous for Prithviraj Kapoor , which was presented to his son, actor and director Raja Kapoor, at the 19th National Film Awards awards ceremony in 1972; 16 years later (at the 35th ceremony) Raj Kapoor was himself awarded this prize.

The recipient is selected by a committee consisting of prominent figures from the Indian film industry. As of 2014, participants are awarded the Golden Lotus Prize ( Hindi कमल , Swarna Kamal ), including the Medallion of the Prize (NFA), shawl and a cash prize of one million rupees (US $ 17,000) [3] .
