Popular Front (Ukraine)

“Popular Front” ( Ukrainian: Popular Front ), abbreviated as NF - Ukrainian political party, which emerged in 2014 after the departure of a number of politicians from the political council of the Batkivshchyna party headed by Arseniy Yatsenyuk and Alexander Turchinov because of disagreements with its leadership [8] . It was created for the 2014 parliamentary elections , in which, despite initial forecasts of 8-10% of the vote, it managed to take first place with 22.14% (the closest competitor, Petro Poroshenko Bloc received 21.82%) [9] .

The result of the Popular Front for the regions of Ukraine in the Parliamentary elections in 2014

It was registered on March 31, 2014 [10] .

The first constituent congress of the party, timed to coincide with the start of the election campaign in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine , took place on September 10, 2014, where the head of its political council, Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk , and the head of the election headquarters, speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Alexander Turchinov , were elected. [11] .

The party’s political council also included: the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov , the Minister of Justice Pavel Petrenko, the ex-secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Andrey Parubiy , Maidan activist Tatyana Chernovol , people's deputies Vyacheslav Kirilenko and Lilia Grinevich [12] .

The Military Council of the Popular Front was also formed, which included: Alexander Turchinov, Minister of the Interior Arsen Avakov, People’s Deputy Sergei Pashinsky , ex-secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Andrei Parubiy, Dmitry Tymchuk , deputy battalion commander of the National Guard Sergei Sidorin, as well as Azov battalion commanders "( Andrey Biletsky )," Dnepr-1 "( Yuri Bereza )," Artyomovsk "( Konstantin Mateychenko )," Golden Gate "," Chernigov "," Peacemaker ". The Military Council, as stated by Alexander Turchinov, was created due to the fact that, according to the legislation of Ukraine, military personnel and law enforcement officers cannot be members of any party [13] .

Since July 2, 2015 Maxim Bourbak has been the head of the Popular Front faction in the Verkhovna Rada [15] .

Activities

In September 2016, the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption, on the basis of the law on state financing of the party, decided to allocate 25.136 million UAH to the NF (25% of the total amount of annual state financing) [16] .

Participation in the elections

At the first congress, a union with the party “ For Ukraine!” " Vyacheslav Kirilenko , and also decided to ban the inclusion in the party lists of former members of the" Party of Regions " [17] .

In the 2015 regional elections , in view of the “need to focus on important reforms,” the party refused to participate [18] . At the same time, the party “ Petro Poroshenko Bloc ” provided a quota in the amount of 25% for members of the NF [19] .
