Edward Lane Eng. Edward Lane (c. 1670–1729) - Englishman in the Russian service, shipbuilder and organizer of ship repair in Russia at the beginning of the 18th century, hydraulic engineer, captain over the Kronstadt port, captain-commander [1] .

Biography
Edward Lane (Idvard Lain) was born in the 1670s, an Englishman born in Scotland . In 1702 he was accepted to the Russian service as a lieutenant . Until 1703 he performed survey works during the construction of the Voronezh Admiralty . In February 1703 he was sent to the Olonetsky shipyard with sailors and ship supplies [2] . He served as an officer on shnyave , made measurements of Lake Ladoga . He served on the frigate "Michael the Archangel", which participated in the Northern War [3] .
In 1706 he was promoted to lieutenant captain. From 1708 on the Olonetsky shipyard he was engaged in the modernization of the old bombing ships. Returned to St. Petersburg. In October 1711 he was sent to Vyborg, where he repaired two firefighters to repel the attack of the Swedish ships. Produced as junior captains [4] .
In 1713-1714, according to the instructions and drawings of Peter I, he oversaw the reconstruction of the pier, supervised the construction of the “original harbor” on Kotlin Island. On January 1, 1715, he was promoted to captain of the 1st rank "for his particular service in the army business . " Head of the construction of the harbor at Kronshlot . In June 1715, he commanded a galsi pilot and carried out measurements from the Birch Islands to Gogland .
In 1716-1719, he participated in the construction of a military harbor and canal on Kotlin. In August 1719, he supervised the installation of navigation lights at the mouth of the Sestra River and on the Kotlinsky Spit, took part in designing the “ship” fortress of Kronslot and the city, supervised the construction of the Military and Merchant harbors, the Kronstadt Canal and the docks, the Lighthouse Stirsudden [5] , the Beacon Tolbukhin in Gulf of Finland . October 22, 1721 was granted to the captain-commander . August 22, 1722 appointed captain over the port of Kronstadt. Watched the construction of Revel harbor. In 1723 he was sent to measure the Ladoga Canal. In 1726 he joined the commission to review new states about rigging .
Edward Lane died on June 8, 1729 . The widow was given an annual salary of 1,200 rubles.
