History
The Catholic parish in Gervyaty was founded in 1526 [2] , then a small wooden church was built.
In 1899-1903, in its place, the architect Vaclav Mikhnevich erected a majestic stone church. According to the chronicles, more than 70 people worked every day on the construction site; a brick factory was specially built outside the village where they made high-quality brick for the temple. Lime was made from limestone, which was mined in the Losha River. For strength, eggs were added to the lime mortar, which were collected by thousands from local peasants. Roof tiles were brought from Germany . The bell tower is 61 m high [3] , the Gervyatsky church is one of the three tallest temples in Belarus and is one of the best examples of the neo-Gothic style in the country [4] .
Architecture
The Church of the Holy Trinity is a typical example of the neo-Gothic style [1] . The temple has three naves and a small transept , the naves are separated from each other by two rows of five columns in each. There is no apse behind the presbytery. A characteristic element of the architecture of the temple are multi-stage buttresses , turning into arcbutans [1] . The walls of the temple are cut by narrow lancet window openings in niches.
In front of the temple are several wooden crosses with rich carvings, which is typical for Lithuanian churches. Around the temple there is a landscape park with rare ornamental plants and figures of the apostles [4] .
The temple is called "little Switzerland" and "Belarusian Notre Dame" [3] . According to a number of surveys, it is recognized as the most beautiful church in Belarus [3] [5] .
