Pulitsas, Panagiotis

Panagiotis Pulitsas ( Greek Παναγιώτης Πουλίτσας ; 1881 , Heraki, Laconia - January 16, 1968 , Athens ) [1] - Greek judge and academician. He was interim Prime Minister of Greece in 1946.

Biography

Pulitsas was born in the laconic village of Heraki in 1881. He studied law at the University of Athens . He worked as a lawyer for 5 years, after which, in 1907, he was appointed as a judge, initially serving as a judge, and then in the courts of appeal in various cities of Greece.

He supplemented his legal knowledge at the university in Berlin , after which he served in the capitals of Macedonia, Thessaloniki , and Epirus , Ioannina (city) . Subsequently, he was appointed chairman of the court in Athens and in 1932 was appointed to the Council of State , remaining in this post until 1951 [2] .

In the first post-war elections of 1946 and before the convocation of the Hellenic Parliament , he became prime minister of the government formed by the leaders of the promonarchist "People's Party" [3] . He remained on the post of prime minister only 14 days (April 4 - 18, 1946 )
. Five years later, Pulitsas was elected to the parliament with the right-wing party Greek Call (Ελληνικός Συναγερμός). Pulitsas has been a member of the Academy of Athens since 1947 and became its president in 1957 [4] [5] Pulitsas was also chairman of the Union of Friends of Education and the Society of Byzantine Studies [6] . Pulitsas published articles in various scientific and legal journals and wrote the book “Relations between the State and the Church” .

He was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of the Phoenix .

Pulitsas died in Athens in 1968.
