In 1963 - 1965 he studied at the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the USSR . After returning to Poland, he headed the 2nd Directorate of the General Staff of the Polish Army (military intelligence). He was removed from this post in 1971 due to the scandal with the escape to the West of Colonel Kazimierz Stefansky, who was under his command. (Oliva's post was taken by Cheslav Kischak .)
Division and District Command
Leaving intelligence did not interrupt Oliva's military career. He returned to command posts in the motorized rifle troops.
From July 1971 to October 1972 - commander of the 1st mechanized (motorized rifle) division. Tadeusz Kosciuszko. Since October 1972 - commander of the Warsaw Military District with the rank of General of Armor .
The political power
WRON Member
In this position, General Oliva met the events of 1980 - 1981 . Took a tough stance on Solidarity . December 13, 1981 became part of the ruling junta - Military Council for National Salvation ( WRON ). As a military leader of the capital, he played an important role during the period of martial law , providing army support to the punitive units of ZOMO . It was perceived as one of the most pro-Soviet members of the military-political leadership of the NDP [1] .
Member of the government
March 23, 1983 Wlodzimierz Oliva was appointed Minister of Administration, Economics and Environmental Protection in the government of Wojciech Jaruzelski . He held a ministerial post until November 1985 . In 1985 - 1989 - Deputy Minister of National Defense of the NDP for economic affairs, the main quartermaster of the Polish Army. At the same time, he also oversaw environmental policy.
From 1976 to 1985, Wlodzimierz Oliva - deputy of the Sejm of the NDP, was a member of the PORP deputy club. He was awarded a number of orders and medals from Poland, Czechoslovakia , North Korea , and Belgium .
Death at the beginning of change
Political changes in Poland in 1988-1989 - mass protests , a compromise between Jaruzelski and Kischak with Lech Walesa , negotiations in Magdalenka , and the Round Table - undermined Oliva’s position in the military-political leadership. He was removed from high posts and on April 25, 1989 was transferred to the post of president of the Legia Warsaw football club .
On June 4, 1989 , the first "semi-free elections" were held in Poland, in which Solidarity won a landslide victory. The next day, Wlodzimierz Oliva died suddenly. The circumstances of his death remained unclear. There is a version of suicide out of fear of corruption disclosures [2] .
Kinship Rumor
The famous Polish entrepreneur Grazhina Piotrovskaya-Oliva , president of the PGNiG oil and gas company, is sometimes considered the "daughter of General Oliva" [3] (or the "daughter of General Piotrovsky ", also a member of WRON). This is not true, but the hearing is holding steady.
