It is located off the coast of the Bering Sea , on the eastern slopes of Mount Puvtenei . The Aipinvaam River flows through the lake, an unnamed stream flows into the northern part. A reservoir is connected by a network to a channel with nearby small lakes [1] .

The name translated from Chukot. - “overlapping lake”. Aipingytgyn has long been a place of fishing for the Chukchi, the river flowing from them was often blocked so that the fish did not leave the lake [2] .
