It was originally a civilian timber carrier Vostok-3 and belonged to the Baltic Shipping Company .

Laid down on 08/29/1962, launched on 07/06/1963 and entered into operation in December 1963.

In 1968, transferred to the Navy of the USSR. Converted into a search and rescue ship.

In the 1980s, an experimental laser gun was installed and tested on the Dixon.

The ship was expelled from the fleet in 1993 . During the division of the Black Sea Fleet, it was transferred to Ukraine.

In 1995, Ukraine sold a US ship at the price of scrap metal. In its holds there were 35-megawatt power generators (which made it possible to provide energy to a city with a population of 200 thousand people), special rotary mechanisms, large-capacity refrigeration units and much more equipment [1] .
