Biography
Nikolai Fominykh was born on May 9, 1923 in the village of Arskoye (now Nemsky district of the Kirov region ). After graduating from school apprenticeship, he worked at a metallurgical plant in Kushva . In December 1942, Fominykh was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since August of the same year - on the fronts of World War II [1] .
By October 1943, the Red Army soldier Nikolai Fominykh was a shooter of the 372nd Infantry Regiment of the 218th Infantry Division of the 47th Army of the 1st Ukrainian Front . He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper . On October 21, 1943, Fominykh was one of the first to cross the Dnieper in the vicinity of the village of Leplyavo, Kanevsky District, Cherkasy Region of the Ukrainian SSR and took an active part in the battles for the capture and retention of the bridgehead on its western shore. In those battles, he personally destroyed several German soldiers in hand-to-hand combat, capturing an enemy machine gun, fired at the enemy until he died. He was buried in a mass grave in Leplyavo [1] .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 3, 1944 for "exemplary fulfillment of command assignments and shown courage and heroism in battles with the German invaders", Red Army soldier Nikolai Fominykh was posthumously awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union . He was also posthumously awarded the Order of Lenin [1] .
In honor of the Fomins, a school and a street in Kushva are named [1] .
