Biography
Vladimir Fokin was born on July 19, 1897 in the village of Bolshaya Glushitsa (now the Bolsheglushitsky District of the Samara Region ). After graduating from four classes of school, he worked at the general store. In 1942, Fokin was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since July of the same year - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War [1] .
By October 1943, Sergeant Vladimir Fokin was the gunner of the gun of the 1178th anti-tank artillery regiment of the 60th Army of the Central Front . Distinguished during the battle for the Dnieper . On October 5 - 6, 1943, the calculation of Fokin crossed the Dnieper in the area of the village of Insurance in the Chernobyl district of the Kiev region of the Ukrainian SSR and took an active part in the battles for the seizure and retention of a bridgehead on its western shore. On the second day of the fighting, he personally knocked out a German tank, he was wounded twice, but continued to fight, covering the retreat of his comrades, until he was killed. Buried in Insure [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 17, 1943, Sergeant Vladimir Fokin was posthumously awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union . He was also awarded the Order of Lenin and a number of medals [1] .
The streets in Bolshaya Glushitsa and the village of Rozhdestveno, Volga District, Samara Region, are named after Fokin [1] .
