Biography

Alexander Firsov was born on August 11, 1925 in the village of Polyaki (now the Putyatinsky district of the Ryazan region ). After finishing nine grades of the school, he worked on a collective farm . In 1943, Firsov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army [1] .

He participated in the battles of the Soviet-Japanese war, being a machine gunner of the 567th Infantry Regiment of the 384th Infantry Division of the 25th Army of the 1st Far Eastern Front . On August 11, 1945, in the battle for the city of Dunning, Firsov, having consumed all the ammunition, covered the embrasure of the Japanese bunker with his body, contributing to the success of his entire unit at the cost of his life. He was buried in the village of Poltavka, Oktyabrsky District, Primorsky Territory [1] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of September 8, 1945, Junior Sergeant Alexander Firsov was posthumously awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union for "exemplary fulfillment of the command missions of the command on the front of the fight against the Japanese militarists and shown exceptional heroism and self-sacrifice." He was also posthumously awarded the Order of Lenin . Forever enrolled in the lists of personnel of the military unit [1] .

Streets in Vladivostok and Ryazan are named after Firsov, as well as the village of Firsovo, Khasansky District, Primorsky Territory, in which a monument is erected [1] .
