Stepan Ivanovich Tevyashov (1718-1790, settlement Kolybelka , Ostrogozhsky uyezd , Voronezh province , Russian Empire ) - commander of the Kharkov suburban Cossack regiment in 1734-57, colonel of the Ostrogozh suburban Cossack regiment in 1757-1763.
Came from a wealthy family of the Tevyashovs . The son of the steward and governor Ivan Ivanovich Tevyashov (senior) (c. 1660-1725), the uncle of the well-known landowner Stepan Ivanovich Tevyashov (younger) in the Sloboda Territory .
As of 1767, Colonel Stepan Ivanovich Tevyashov had forty serf souls and 4,256 Cossacks subordinate, while foreman Stepan Ivanovich Tevyashov had sixty serf souls and 2,657 Cossacks subordinate. [1] Sons:
- Vladimir Stepanovich (1747 — circa 1810) - college adviser;
- Vasily Stepanovich (1755 — circa 1818) —second major, leader of the nobility of Ostrogozhsky district (1794-1797);
- Ivan Stepanovich (1758-1817) - Prime Minister, leader of the nobility of Ostrogozhsky district (1786-1787), husband of Princess Maria Pavlovna Shcherbatova; they have a son, Paul .
Realizing the lack of education, already at an advanced age, Tevyashov began to take home lessons from Grigory Savvich Skovoroda . The letters and writings of Skovoroda contain a series of testimonies of heated philosophical conversations between Grigory Skovoroda, Stepan Ivanovich Tevyashov and his son Vladimir.
The frying pan dedicated to Stepan Ivanovich Tevyashov his “Icon of Alcibiades”, better known as the “Israeli Serpent,” as well as the translation from Latin of Cicero’s dialogue “On Old Age”. [2]
