Biography
Yakov Fefelov was born in 1923 in the village of Solonovka (now the Smolensky district of the Altai Territory ). In 1936 he moved to the village of Borovlyanka, Troitsky District , graduated from elementary school there and worked as a tractor driver. In August 1941 Fefelov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since April 1942 - on the fronts of World War II [1] .
By January 1945 of the Guard, Senior Sergeant Yakov Fefelov was a tank driver of the 1st Tank Battalion of the 50th Guards Tank Brigade ( 9th Guards Tank Corps , 2nd Guards Tank Army , 1st Belorussian Front ). He distinguished himself during the liberation of Poland . On January 16 - 18, 1945, Fefelov’s crew participated in the battles for the city of Sokhachev , destroying a total of 2 tanks, 2 armored personnel carriers, 13 artillery pieces, about 50 vehicles and a large number of enemy soldiers and officers. February 8, 1945 Fefelov died in battle [1] .
Rewards
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of February 27, 1945, the senior sergeant Yakov Fefelov was posthumously awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union . He was also awarded the Orders of Lenin , the Red Banner , World War 2 degree and the Red Star , a number of medals [1] .
