Biography
Born in a family of farmers. In 1932 he received higher education in agriculture and forestry. He worked as the director of a farmer's school in Cannus (1932-1935), as a teacher (1936-1942), and again as the director of the school (1943-1965).

- 1959-1962 - Minister of Transport and Public Works,
Since 1962 - Chairman of the Parliament of Finland.
In 1951-1965 - Chairman of the National Sports Council and the Central Sports Union of Finland (SVUL).
