Biography
Valentin Fedorov was born on December 23, 1925 in the village of Loma (now - Sretensky district of the Transbaikal Territory ). He graduated from ten classes of the school. In 1943, Fedorov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since August of the same year - on the fronts of World War II [1] .
By August 1944, Junior Sergeant Valentin Fedorov was the gunner of the fighter-anti-tank battery of the 44th Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 1st Tank Corps of the 2nd Guards Army of the 1st Baltic Front . He distinguished himself during the battles in the territory of the Lithuanian SSR . On August 19, 1944, during a battle near the village of Kuzhiai in the Šiauliai region, Fedorov’s crew destroyed 8 enemy tanks. When his gun was defeated, Fedorov and his comrades continued to fight off anti-tank grenades [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 24, 1945, for “exemplary fulfillment of command assignments and shown courage and heroism in battles with the German invaders,” Junior Sergeant Valentin Fedorov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 8260 [1] .
After the war, the rank of lieutenant Fedorov was sacked. He lived and worked in Leningrad . He died on January 3, 1988, was buried at the Krasnenky cemetery in St. Petersburg [1] .
He was also awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree and three orders of the Red Star , a number of medals [1] .
In honor of Fedorov, a rescue ship of the Baltic Shipping Company is named [1] .
