Biography

Born December 27, 1924 in the city of Revda, Sverdlovsk Region . Education is incomplete secondary. He worked at a mine in the city of Degtyarsk as an electrician.

In May 1942 he was drafted into the Red Army by the Revdinsky district military enlistment office. Since that time at the front. In August 1942 he was seriously injured. By the fall of 1943, he fought as a scout of the 488th separate reconnaissance company of the 219th Rifle Division. On September 24, 1943, during reconnaissance as part of a cover group, he ensured the fulfillment of a combat mission. Finding approaching opponents, he met them with machine gun fire, killed three soldiers, collected valuable documents from them and delivered them to headquarters. He was awarded the medal "For Courage".

On March 31, 1944, near the village of Sunuplyava, the Red Armyman Popov, acting in the capture group, secretly made his way to the enemy’s position and detonated the firing point with grenades along with the calculation. Then, providing the work of the capture group, fire from the machine gun destroyed up to 12 opponents. He was presented for the award of the Order of the Red Star .

By order in parts of the 219th Infantry Division of April 18, 1944, Red Army soldier Georgy Alexandrovich Popov was awarded the Order of Glory of the 3rd degree.

On April 30, 1944, near the Lubanas Lake, the Red Army soldier Popov participated in the reconnaissance and capture of the control prisoner. On August 24, 1944, Red Army soldier Popov again excelled in intelligence. Ensuring the performance of a combat mission, destroyed up to 9 opponents, captured 2 prisoners. He was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd degree.

By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated March 24, 1945, Red Army soldier Georgy Alexandrovich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 1st degree. He became the full holder of the Order of Glory.

He was also awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, the Red Banner , the Red Star , medals, including the medal "For Courage".

In 1945, Sergeant Popov G.A. was demobilized. He returned to his homeland. He lived in the city of Degtyarsk, Sverdlovsk region . He worked in the local mining department as an electrician.

He died on June 3, 2002. He was buried in the cemetery of the city of Degtyarsk.
