Biography
Born on July 6, 1919 in the village of Gorodetsky, Skopinsky District, Ryazan Region ,. Graduated 5 classes. After the death of his father in 1929, he was forced to leave school to help his mother. From 1930 to 1937 he worked for hire, pasturing cattle. In 1937–1939, he worked at the Kuchinsky brick factory in the Reutov district of the Moscow region .
In October 1939 he was drafted into the Red Army by the Reutov District Military Commissariat. He served in the Far East, in the construction part in the city of Komsomolsk-on-Amur. It met the beginning of the Great Patriotic War . In July 1941 he was transferred to another part in the Lazo district, here he received training in the demining business.
Since March 1942, he participated in battles with invaders on the Kalininsky front , as part of a sapper company of the 117th rifle brigade. In early April 1942, the sapper company, which included Morgunov, fought, under enemy fire, organized a ferry across the Young Tud river. After the bridgehead was captured, the Red Army soldier Morgunov was boarded several times by boat across the river, rebuilding the damaged communication line, carrying 28 wounded soldiers to the rear. In August 1942, he was wounded, returned to the front after treatment. Part of the fighting reached the village Kholmets near the city of Ostashkov, where she stood in defense until the winter-spring offensive of 1943. In the course of the Rzhev-Vyazma strategic offensive operation, built ferries across the rivers, made passes in the minefields and enemy defensive barriers.
In April 1943, the 117th Infantry Brigade was deployed to the rear in the area of the city of Tula of the Moscow Military District, and turned to the formation of the 96th Infantry Division. He was enrolled as a sapper in the 358th separate battalion, as part of which was held until the end of the war. He fought on the Bryansk, Byelorussian, 1st and 2nd Byelorussian fronts.
From June to October 1943, he participated in the battles of the Bolkhov-Oryol front-line, Bryansk and Gomel-Rechitsa offensive operations.
During the fighting from December 20, 1943 to January 10, 1944, in the area of Kolibovka and Bobovka, a Red Army soldier Morgunov, work ahead of our defense 50–200 meters, personally installed 250 anti-tank mines and over 100 anti-personnel mines. He was wounded and contused, but after dressing he remained in the ranks, continuing mining.
By order of the 96th Infantry Division of February 8, 1944, the Red Army soldier Morgunov Ivan Timofeevich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 3rd degree.
From April 1 to April 10, 1944, the Red Army soldier Morgunov, under enemy mortar fire, installed 600 anti-tank and anti-personnel mines in the division's defense zone. Awarded the medal "For Courage".
In the summer of 1944, the division participated in the Belarusian strategic operation, advancing on the Bobruisk direction, captured the city of Zhlobin. In August - early September, the division fought about 150 km and by September 8 reached the Narev river at the turn of Ruzhana, Pultusk, where it went over to the defensive.
In the period from September 12 to 18, 1944 near the settlements of Zembsky-Koszeln, Goszkovo Mtfunov Morgunov with his branch produced a mine in front of the front line of our defense. Under enemy fire set 170 min. The order of the command to install a mine-blast barrier was completed on time. On the night of October 13, when breaking through enemy defenses and crossing the river, Narev took part in building a ferry, was slightly injured but did not fail. He remained on the bridge, continuing under enemy fire to smuggle infantry and artillery. He was presented to the Order of the Red Star , the commander of the 53rd Rifle Corps status of the award was upgraded.
By order of the troops of the 46th army dated November 27, 1944, corporal Morgunov Ivan Timofeevich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 2nd degree.
Later on, as part of his unit, he participated in the East Prussian offensive operation.
On January 13-14, 1945, during the breakthrough of the enemy’s defense near the settlement of Zaklichevo, corporal Morgunov with his squad made a passage in a wire fence and three passes in the enemy’s minefields. During the period of offensive battles he moved in the battle formations of the infantry. On February 3, during the capture of the village of Kalkstein, the first to burst into the southern outskirts of the village, killed 5 opponents. When the self-propelled gun appeared, Ferdinand installed 10 anti-tank mines. In this battle he was seriously wounded, but he did not leave the battlefield, continuing to command the detachment. During this battle was presented to the award of the Order of Glory of the 1st degree.
By the decree of the Presidium of the Verkhvonog Council of the USSR of April 19, 1945, corporal Morgunov Ivan Timofeevich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 1st degree. Became a full gentleman of the Order of Glory.
Victory Day met in a military hospital in the city of Tambov. After recovery, he was sent to a separate training tank regiment to receive a specialty driver mechanic. In November 1946 he was demobilized.
Returned home. Entered work as a civilian in the military unit No. 86741 of the railway troops: he worked as a mechanic, foreman of mechanics in this unit, was a drummer of communist labor, was repeatedly awarded with diplomas. He worked in this military unit for more than 30 years, until retirement.
He lived in the village Govorovo Skopinsky district. From 2010 he lived in the city of Ryazan, with his daughter. He died on June 15, 2016, was buried in the cemetery of his native village Gorodetskoe, Skopinsky District, Ryazan Region.
He was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of 1 degree, Glory of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd degrees, medals, including the medal "For Courage".
