Biography

Born in 1924 in the village of Cossacks (now - Elets district of the Lipetsk region ). He graduated from the 7 classes and railway technical school in the city of Yelets.

In October 1942 he was drafted into the Red Army by the Yelets District Military Commissariat. On the front since August 1943, he fought on the Western and 1st Baltic fronts. The entire combat path was part of the 348th Infantry Regiment of the 51st Infantry Division , by October 1944 was a reconnaissance platoon intelligence officer.

On the night of December 5, 1943, in the area of ​​the village of Savchenki, a Red Army soldier Kupavtsev, while carrying out a combat mission as part of a reconnaissance team in the rear, attacked and destroyed a large group of opponents. In this battle, captured the "language", which reported in the regimental headquarters valuable information about the enemy. On December 16, in the area of ​​the village of Shunki, when the enemy tried to surround and cut off a group of intelligence officers from the front line, Kupavtsev struck several soldiers with grenades and fire from a machine gun and forced the rest to retreat.

By order of the 51st Infantry Division of January 6, 1944, the Red Army soldier Ivan Akimovich Kupavtsev was awarded the Order of Glory of the 3rd degree.

March 22, 1944, being in the exploration in the area of ​​the village of Gorodeshnoye, the Red Army soldier Kupavtsev showed exceptional courage and resourcefulness, he hit several opponents with fire and grenades and captured along with the fighters 3.

By order of the troops of the 4th Shock Army of March 25, 1944, Red Army soldier Ivan Akimovich Kupavtsev was awarded the Order of Glory of the 2nd degree.

By May 1944, on the chest of intelligence officer Kupavtsev, in addition to the orders of "Glory", there were four more combat awards - the Order of the Red Star and three medals "For Courage". All - for the courage and bravery shown in intelligence searches, the seizure of languages, which gave valuable information. On May 31, near the village of Novoselka, when opponents attacked our observation post, he was seriously wounded, but continued to fight until the attack was repelled. He was awarded the second Order of the Red Star . After the hospital returned to his company, he was appointed commander of a platoon of foot intelligence.

On June 24, 1944, in the battle for the village of Obolove, Sergeant Kupavtsev, already the commander of a walking reconnaissance platoon, with a group of scouts penetrated into the rear of the enemy. The fighters discovered the masked guns of the enemy, destroyed the calculations with machine gun fire and grenades, more than 20 opponents, captured three guns, 50 shells and a control prisoner. After successful actions of the scouts, Obolove village was occupied by our units without losses. During this battle Sergeant Kupavtsev was presented to the Order of Glory, 1st degree.

On August 11, 1944, during a reconnaissance in the area of ​​the village of Shilenay, sergeant Kupavtsev died. He was buried at the site of the battle, in 2000 he was reburied at the military cemetery of the village Nemunele-Radviliškis.

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated March 24, 1945, sergeant Kupavtsev Ivan Akimovich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 1st degree for exemplary performance of the combat tasks of the command on the front of the fight against the German invaders and the valor and courage shown. Became a full gentleman of the Order of Glory.
