The referendum on independence was held on the territory of Uzbekistan on December 29, 1991, after the adoption of the Alma-Ata Declaration on the purposes and principles of the CIS , which announced the termination of the existence of the USSR. It asked: “Do you approve of the state independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan proclaimed by the Supreme Council of the Republic of Uzbekistan?”. As a result, 98.3% of the votes supported independence, against 1.7%. Turnout was 94.1% [1] .
