Geography
It is located 37 km west of the district center, the village of Bichura , on the regional highway P441 Mukhorshibir - Bichura - Kyakhta . The southern point of the republican highway Ulan-Ude - Tarbagatai - Okino-Klyuchi . The Okino-Klyuchevskoye coal deposit is located 4 km west of the village, from where coal is supplied to the Gusinoozerskaya state district power station .
History
Okin-village was founded in 1757 by the first family migrants (15 families) on uninhabited and untouched lands in remote taiga. Here is what the Irkutsk chronicles say: "... this year 1756 Polish Old Believers came to Irkutsk to settle them beyond Lake Baikal." They were accompanied by Lt. Col. Chevikov. In January-February 1757 they were sent from Irkutsk to Transbaikalia and settled along Chikoy and the Selenga channels. So we got to Khilka, where 20 miles to the south, in the forest taiga on the banks of the tributary of the Khilka - a mountain stream, later called Okinka, they founded Okin Village.
In 1779, the first Old Believers moved to the keys of the steppe river, near the Klyuchevskoy village. Over time, the population of Okin Village moved north, to this small river in the steppe, in a new place and the Oka Keys were formed, which later became the Okino-Klyuchi.
F.F. Bolenev discovered the lists of the parish of the Kudarinsky fortress of the Nativity of Christ Church of the Urlutsk Office of the Klyuchevsky dozen of the Okinskoy village, which were settled with the families of the parish. Since 1835, the village was part of the Verkhneudinsky district of the Kunalei volost, and somewhat later had an independent volost government.

The population increased until the 40s of the XX century. So, in 1804 the population of Okino-Klyuchi was 65 souls of the male sex, in 1808 - 206 souls of both sexes. For 1825 in Okino-Klyuchi: revision souls of Old Believers 144, the remaining 28; total husband. 205, g. 187, in 54 houses. In 1862, 773 people lived in Okino-Klyuchi.
The population of Okino-Klyuch is mono-ethnic - more than 95% are Russian. The vast majority of which are family - the descendants of the very first Old Believers-immigrants in Transbaikalia. The most common surnames are: Razuvaevs, Korobenkovs, Kurenkovs, Konovalenkovs, Simonovs, Alekseevs, Gerasimovs.
Since the mid-1990s, population decline has been observed; mortality exceeds fertility, a significant number of residents go to the village.
Due to the fact that the majority of the population is family, the appearance is appropriate; hair color of the indigenous population from white to dark blond. Black hair color is extremely rare, most of the population is blue-eyed, less often green-eyed, gray-eyed and brown-eyed. The growth is above average and high, the physique is large. The facial features of the Great Russian type are correct.

The main occupation of the population is agriculture. In the south-south-east of the village is located SEC "Keys". Okino-Klyuchevsky coal mine is working near the village.
