Biography
Igor Rudakov was born on October 8, 1934 in Leningrad . He began to actively engage in rowing in early childhood, at first he was a member of the Leningrad sports society "Trud", since 1965 he was a representative of " Spartak ".
He achieved the first serious success in 1959, becoming the USSR champion in twos with the helmsman. Thanks to a series of successful performances, he was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome - he was a helmsman in a pair of Antanas Bagdonavichus and Zigmas Yukna and in the four Oleg Alexandrov , Igor Khokhlov , Boris Fedorov and Valentin Zanin . In the first case, he won the silver medal, losing only to the German crew, in the second he was also close to the top positions, reached the final, but finished fourth in the decisive round.
In 1961, Rudakov took silver at the European Championships in Prague - in the program of four-seater crews with a helmsman. A year later, he received two bronze medals at the World Championships in Swiss Lucerne, in twos and fours. A year later, he won bronze at the European Championships in Copenhagen. In 1964, in twos became the silver medalist of the European Championship in Amsterdam and visited the Olympics in Tokyo , where, being the steering of deuces Nikolai Safronov and Leonid Rakovshchik , took the fourth place in the final.
At the European Championship in 1965 in German Duisburg, the Rudakov-driven deuce won first place, overtaking all rivals. Thus, he received the European title [1] .
