The station laid on the international railway line Kiev - Krakow - Bytom - Opole - Wroclaw - Dresden , was built in 1859 . Now important railways intersect here leading to Katowice , Opole , Gliwice , Lubliniec .

The existing station building was built in 1929 , when the city of Bytom ( German: Beuthen , Boyten) was part of the Weimar Republic .
