Ship Description
A sailing battleship of rank 4 , the length of the vessel, according to various sources, ranged from 40.54 to 40.6 meters, width - 11 meters, and draft from 4.66 to 4.7 meters. The armament of the ship was 56 guns. The name was given in honor of the Finnish city in which on August 30 ( September 10 ), 1721 , the Nishtadt Peace Treaty was concluded , summing up the results of the Northern War [1] [2] .
Service History
The ship Nishtadt was laid down in Rotterdam by order of Prince B. I. Kurakin in 1720 and, after launching in 1721, became part of the Baltic Fleet of Russia [1] [2] .
On November 12 ( 23 ), 1721 , when moving from Holland to Russia, near the island of Ezel , aground, none of the crew was injured. The following year, an expedition was organized to the crash site, but not one of the attempts to remove the ship from the shallows was successful. The guns and rigging were removed from the ship and delivered to Kronstadt [1] [2] .
