Biography
Born in a Karaite family [1] . In 1945 he graduated from the A. Gorky Literary Institute . First he worked at Sovinformburo , then at the Sovetskoye Isk newspaper, and then, until the end of his days, he was the head of the criticism department in the Theater magazine. He was the first public pain of the Sovremennik Theater.
Anatoly Efros recalled him:
I have repeatedly spoken and written about the impact on us young directors of such a critic as Vladimir Sappak and a number of people writing about art around him. Why exactly around Sappak? He was a talented, exceptional, kind, attentive, sweet person. He was seriously ill, sat at home, but to communicate with him was always a pleasure. His clever and subtle statements about art were all listened with attention. He was surrounded by many interesting critics who still work in art. These and some other people then determined, as it seemed to me, the course of all art.
Vladimir Sappak began to print in 1948. He has authored numerous articles on drama and theater. He wrote the book “Television and We,” published posthumously in 1963.
