Player Career
The early years
Ermolaev was born on November 4, 1935 in Bezhitsa , Bryansk region . In childhood, he spent all his free time on the site in the district park, where street teams competed among themselves. Michael was one of the organizers of such meetings. At that time, a rather strong team was at the club "Builder", Michael was appointed her captain. Then he was invited to the place of the right-back in Bezhitsky Dzerzhinets. As part of the new club, Ermolaev became the champion of the region, successfully played in the championship of the RSFSR. By the time he served in the army, he already had fairly good skills. He was immediately enrolled in a strong military team, the Voronezh " Wings of the Soviets ." At one of the matches in Voronezh, CSKA breeders attended. Ermolaev was noticed by Vsevolod Bobrov , and by order of the military leadership he ended up in Moscow.
CSKA
At first, Ermolaev entrenched in the second part of the army team football team, but purposefully worked to improve his form. Soon he was entrusted with both the position of the central defender and the captain's armband - first in CSKA, and then in the USSR Olympic team. In preparation for the next season, CSKA had to hold a friendly match with Gorky “ Torpedo ”. The match for the “army” was not difficult, the team had a clear advantage and led in the long run - 3: 1. But in one of the attacks, Yermolaev collided with an opponent while jumping for the ball. Already in the air, he felt an elbow strike in the right lumbar region, twenty minutes before the final whistle he was carried away from the field on a stretcher.
There are different versions of saving a football player. One Russian magazine reported that the defender of the army was sent by plane to Moscow. But Oleg Belakovsky, the then doctor of the team, wrote that Ermolaev was hospitalized in a Gorky hospital with a kidney rupture. After the operation, the surgeon told the team that a minute delay could take the player’s life. Ermolaev was supposed to end his football career, but he persuaded a team doctor to help him return to the field. In this situation, it was necessary to design a protective structure that completely eliminated the possibility of damage to the remaining kidney even with the most severe impacts. Mikhail repeatedly tried on a corset designed by Belakovsky. The next day, for the first time after an injury, he entered the field.

Coach Career
Still, Ermolaev was forced to finish playing for CSKA. Coach career began at the end of the player. After graduating from high school coaches, he was an assistant coach of CSKA, and then headed the Sevastopol SKChF .
In 1972, he headed the Odessa SKA , which was then based in Tiraspol and performed under the name "Star". As a coach, Ermolaev was a man of low sociability, did not distinguish favorites from his players, relations with players and colleagues were not very good. In early 1976, the club returned to Odessa and restored its old name. In the Odessa club, he continued to work as a head coach. However, when things went wrong in the Odessa SKA championship, in June 1976 he was replaced by Vladimir Shemelev [2] . Then Ermolaev worked as deputy director of the sports department in the Northern Group of Forces .
