Biography
He was born on September 26, 1923 in a village of Vognema (now - Kirillovsky district of the Vologda region ) in a peasant family. He graduated from seven classes of a rural school. He worked as a fireman at a sawmill.
In March 1942 he was drafted into the Red Army . Since November 1942, he participated in battles with the invaders, served as a gunner, then commander of the calculation of guns in artillery.
On January 14-17, 1944, in the area of the settlement of Nasva, Junior Sergeant Konovalov brought the gun to an open position and opened fire with direct fire. With well-aimed fire, he crushed 3 anti-tank guns, destroyed 3 bunkers and exterminated up to 15 soldiers. He was shell-shocked and wounded in the chest, refused to be evacuated to the hospital and continued to carry out the combat mission. By order of the troops of the 22nd Army of January 26, 1944, Junior Sergeant Anatoly Konovalov was awarded the Order of Glory of the 3rd degree.
On February 2-8, 1944, during a battle in the area of the settlement of Ovinovo in the Pskov Region, Sergeant Konovalov destroyed 9 machine guns, an anti-aircraft gun and 3 dugouts with fire from a gun, which contributed to the successful offensive of the rifle units. In conjunction with other calculations, he repelled two enemy counterattacks, destroying a platoon of enemy manpower. By order of April 12, 1944, Sergeant Konovalov Anatoly Mikhailovich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 2nd degree.
On September 10, 1944, the calculation commander, Sergeant Konovalov, in a battle near the city of Madlisk burned an assault gun, disabled an enemy 75-mm gun, an anti-aircraft gun, two machine guns and a lot of infantry. By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the USSR of March 24, 1945, for exceptional courage, courage and fearlessness in battles with enemy invaders, Sergeant Konovalov Anatoly Mikhailovich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 1st degree. He became the full holder of the Order of Glory.
In 1945, demobilized. He returned to his homeland. He worked as a foreman in a local forest cooperative, worked as a weigher at a tank farm, and as a foreman at the Cherepovets raft.
He lived in the native village of Vognema. He died on March 20, 1976.
He was awarded the Order of Glory of 3 degrees, medals. In 1995, 2nd Red Street of the city of Kirillov was renamed Konovalov Street.
