Biography
Vasily Turchin was born on July 5, 1922 in the village of New Prague (now the Alexandria district of the Kirovograd region of Ukraine ). After finishing nine grades of the school, he worked on a collective farm . In 1941, Turchin was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since November of the same year - on the fronts of World War II [1] .
By April 1945, the guard sergeant Vasily Turchin commanded a machine gun at the 12th Guards Cavalry Regiment of the 3rd Guards Cavalry Division of the 2nd Guards Cavalry Corps of the 1st Belorussian Front . He distinguished himself during the assault on Berlin . On April 22, 1945, Turchin’s calculation crossed the Spree and with his fire supported the actions of the main forces, inflicting heavy losses on the enemy [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated May 31, 1945, Sergeant Vasily Turchin was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the awarding of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal [1] .
In 1946, Turchin graduated from junior lieutenant courses. In the same year he was sacked. He lived and worked in Kaliningrad . He died on November 3, 1980 [1] .
He was also awarded the Order of the Red Star and a number of medals [1] .
He was married to Alexander Porfiryevna Turchina.
