History
In 1968, the Seventh Archbishopric District of the Greek Orthodox Archbishopric of North and South America was established with its center in Detroit . The diocese was ruled by titular vicar bishops.
In March 1979, instead of the archbishopric constituencies, full-fledged dioceses were created as part of the archdiocese, including the Detroit Diocese, which replaced the Seventh District.
On December 20, 2002, by the decision of the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church of Constantinople, the dioceses of the American Archbishopric, including Detroit, were elevated to the rank of Metropolitanate.
