History

For the first time, the district was declared a natural monument by Decree No. 8 of the District Executive Committee of the Pohvistnevsky District on January 12, 1984. By the Resolution of the Oblast Executive Committee of the Kuibyshev Region No. 386 of November 3, 1987, an area of 115 hectares was given the status of a regional natural monument. In the future, due to the addition of part of the floodplain of the Bolshoi Kinel River and the floodplain Lake Kopeyka, the protected area grew to 260 hectares.

Geography

The natural monument is located 6 km northeast of the town of Pokhvistnevo , between the villages of Staropokhvistnevo and Kutayka . “Kopeyka Mountain” refers to the southern part of the Bugulminsko-Belebeyevskaya Upland, being a part of small orographic structures - Kinelsky Yars. The area is a system of steep hill hills heavily dissected by hollows up to 250 meters high with steep slopes, parts of the floodplain of the Bolshoy Kinel River and the floodplain Kopeika Lake. It is a watershed of two small rivers, tributaries of the Bolshoi Kinel, flowing parallel to each other: Savrush in the east and Kutlugush in the west.

The terrain is composed of rocks of the Kazan and Tatar tiers of the Upper Permian system, emerging in the form of red-colored clays and clastic material of the Dolomites. A stony steppe with unique plant species is widespread on the parent rock. In a number of places, it is covered by thin washed-out chernozems, there are areas of grass-grass steppe, as well as forest and shrubs.

Man-made impact

The plateau-like part of the hill is plowed up, except for the edge extending to a plateau within a radius of 100 m. After the mining and exploration work, there were obvious signs of anthropogenic impact: quarries, sometimes filled with water and contaminated with oil products.

Flora

On the territory of the monument grows 222 species of higher plants belonging to 147 genera, 49 families and 3 departments. The class of angiosperms dominates - 218 species (98.2%), among which the class of dicotyledons (189 species) predominates.

44 species of plants are listed in the Red Book of the Samara Region , 10 in the Red Book of the RSFSR, and 5 are representatives of the Red Book of the USSR. 14 relict species grow on the territory of the natural monument.
