Airplane
The Il-62 with serial number 00801 (serial - 08-01) was released by the Kazan Aviation Plant approximately in September 1970 . The airliner received the tail number CCCP-86651 and was handed over to the Ministry of Civil Aviation of the Soviet Union , which by September 17 sent it to the Sheremetyevo United Aviation Squadron of the Central Directorate for International Air Services (CUMA). In June 1971, the aircraft was leased to Arab Airlines United Arab Airlines , while receiving a tail number SU-ARN . Since November of the same 1971, the board of the SU-ARN began to be operated in the Egyptian airline EgyptAir separated from the UAA [1] .
Accident
The plane served a passenger flight to Cairo , and on board were 47 passengers and 12 crew members. The flight approached completion and the crew began landing at strip 34 of the Cairo airport . But in fact, it was a strip of 36 Almaz airbase . The lane 36 was half as long as the lane 34; moreover, the first 650 meters of its length were repaired, so the landing was performed 700 meters after the starting end. The remaining margin of length was not enough for the airliner to stop. IL-62 rolled out of the strip on the ground and caught fire. Due to the timely evacuation, none of the 59 people on board died, but the aircraft itself was critically damaged and was written off. In exchange, the board CCCP-86654 soon arrived from the Soviet Union and received the board number SU-AVL in Egypt (serial number 00804, returned to the USSR in September [2] ) [3] [4] .
