Building

The museum is located in the central part of the city in the historic building of the Palace of the Marquises of Dos Aguas . The building is an irregular quadrangle, with a courtyard and four corner towers. The facades of the palace took their modern look in the eighteenth century, when they were generously decorated with carved alabaster decor. The main entrance is especially magnificent, the carving surrounding it includes a statue of the Mother of God, and two male figures - an allegorical image of two rivers (the name of the owners of the palace of the Marquise Dos Aguas is translated as “Two Rivers”). The entire area of the facades, free from carving, was originally covered with frescoes (not preserved), now covered with stucco imitating marble .

The exposition of the museum, named after its founder, historian Manuel González Marty (1877 - 1972), who presented his rich collection to the Spanish state in 1946, demonstrates the development of ceramics in Spain, and includes samples made by the Moors during the Arab conquest , objects from the medieval Catholic kingdoms of northern Spain, gradually expanding south during the Reconquista , court porcelain of the XVIII century, majolica of folk craftsmen. The exposition is crowned with a reproduced interior of ancient Spanish cuisine, filled with genuine ceramic works.
