Biography
Born on November 10, 1924 in the village of Troynino, now Gorokhovets district , Vladimir region . He graduated from 8 classes. In 1930, he moved with his family to the city of Dzerzhinsk, Gorky Region. He worked as a turner student, a turner at the Igumnovskaya TPP.
In 1942 he was drafted into the Red Army . At the front since January 1943. The battle path began in the infantry, was wounded. After the hospital, in the spring of 1943 he was sent to the 275th Guards Fighter-Antitank Artillery Regiment of the 4th Guards Separate Fighter-Antitank Artillery Brigade of the RVGK . He was a carrier of shells, assistant gunner, gunner.
He participated in the battle on the Kursk Bulge, crossing the Dnieper River, in the battles for the liberation of Belarus. He was awarded two medals "For Courage". He distinguished himself in battles in Poland and Germany .
On July 23, 1944, in the battle for the settlement of Travniki Guard, Junior Sergeant Pestov, as part of the calculation, knocked out 4 enemy tanks, destroyed 7 machine gunners who broke through to firing positions with personal weapons.
By order of the Guard on August 12, 1944, Junior Sergeant Pestov Dmitry Grigorievich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 3rd degree.
On August 26, 1944, while repulsing an enemy counterattack in the area of the settlements of Klikava, Gura Pulavsk Guard, Junior Sergeant Pestov put down 2 machine guns with fire from a gun, knocked out a tank, scattered and partially exterminated the enemy infantry platoon. He was wounded, but did not leave the battlefield. For the rest of his life, a splinter remained in his shoulder.
By order of the Guard on October 27, 1944, Junior Sergeant Pestov Dmitry Grigorievich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 2nd degree.
On January 14, 1945, in the battle during the breakthrough of the enemy’s defense in the vicinity of the settlement of Paenkuv Guard, Sergeant Pestov with the calculation of artillery fire disabled the anti-tank gun, 2 firing points, destroyed the dugout, and destroyed up to 10 opponents, which contributed to the advancement of rifle units. January 17, in repelling a tank attack, replaced the dead gun commander. He fired on tanks through the barrel, as the scope was broken. The last tank set fire to an anti-tank grenade.
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 24, 1945, Junior Sergeant Pestov Dmitry Grigorievich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 1st degree for courage, bravery and fearlessness shown in battles with enemy invaders of the guard. He became the full holder of the Order of Glory.
Sergeant Pestov ended the War of the Guard in Berlin already as a calculation commander. Over the last battles he was awarded the Order of the Red Star . Member of the CPSU (b) / CPSU since 1945. After the Victory, he served in Germany for two more years. In 1947 he was demobilized.
He returned to the city of Dzerzhinsk. He worked at Igumnovskaya CHPP, became a turbine driver. In 1953 he graduated from the Dzerzhinsky Chemical-Mechanical College, evening department. For three years at the call of the party he worked as a mechanic at the Sloboda MTS. Then again to Dzerzhinsk, a mechanic for the repair of chemical equipment at the Kaprolactam chemical plant. He died on May 19, 1991. He was buried in the cemetery of the city of Dzerzhinsk.
He was awarded the orders of World War 1 degree, Red Star , Glory 3 degrees, medals, including two “For Courage”.
