Biography
He was born on February 29, 1920 in the village of Letniki of the Sapozhkovsky district of the Ryazan province, now Putyatinsky district of the Ryazan region , in a peasant family. He graduated from a rural school, helped his father with the housework. In 1935, parents entered the collective farm, he worked with them. In the mid-1930s, the family moved to the village of Staraya Kupavna, Noginsky District, Moscow Region . In 1939, Ivan left for the city of Leningrad, where he entered the Lensovet factory.
In April 1941 he was drafted into the Red Army . He began his service in the 659th airfield maintenance battalion, deployed in the city of Klin, Moscow Region . Member of the Great Patriotic War since June 1941. He fought as a machine gunner, then as an artilleryman in anti-tank artillery. He was wounded and shell-shocked. Member of the CPSU since 1945.
By the beginning of 1944, Sergeant Korneev commanded the gun crew of the 5th battery of the 1956th anti-tank artillery regiment.
On February 21, 1944, while crossing the Dnieper River and expanding the bridgehead in the vicinity of the village of Kisteni, Sergeant Korneev suppressed the enemy mortar battery with direct fire and broke up 2 machine guns.
By order of February 28, 1944, Sergeant Korneev Ivan Nikolaevich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 3rd degree.
In October 1944, in a battle on the right bank of the Narev River, Senior Sergeant Korneev with accurate fire incapacitated 2 machine guns and 12 enemy soldiers. He was wounded, but continued to fight.
By order of November 15, 1944, Senior Sergeant Korneev Ivan Nikolaevich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 2nd degree.
In February 1945, Petty Officer Korenev distinguished himself in the battles for the retention and expansion of the bridgehead on the western bank of the Oder River in the area of the Zofiental settlement.
On February 21, when repulsing the enemy’s counterattack, “... Sergeant Korneev brought out a wounded platoon commander from under the fire and replaced him in battle. The platoon he commanded destroyed 1 tank and knocked out an enemy’s self-propelled gun. But the enemy infantry continued to advance. Then Korneev with several fighters moved forward and destroyed the enemy group with machine gun and machine gun fire. The counterattack was repulsed. Korneev personally destroyed 25 opponents. The line that held the platoon became impregnable for the enemy. ” For the skillful leadership of the platoon, retention of the line and the courage shown at the same time, the regiment commander introduced him to the award of the Order of the Red Banner . However, the commander of the 40th anti-tank artillery brigade changed his presentation to the Order of Glory of the 1st degree.
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of May 31, 1945, for sergeant, courage and fearlessness shown in battles with enemy invaders, senior sergeant Ivan Nikolaevich Korneev was awarded the Order of Glory of the 1st degree. He became the full holder of the Order of Glory.
In 1946 he was demobilized as a lieutenant.
He lived in the village of Kupavna, Moscow Region . He worked at the chemical and pharmaceutical plant "Akrikhin" in the transport department, then - a turner in a mechanical. In December 1947, he was elected to the Starokupavinsky Village Council of Workers' Deputies. He died on November 30, 1950.
He was awarded the Order of Glory of 3 degrees, the medal "For Courage" and other medals.
In May 1990, a memorial plaque was erected in the village of Staraya Kupavna at house No. 37 on Bolnichny passage in memory of the veteran. His name is immortalized at the memorial in the district center of the village of Putyatino.
